Feel-good dancing for people who love music, movement and connection

If your toes start tapping whenever Elvis comes on, or you can’t resist a bit of Beatles groove, you’re in the right place.

At Te Amo Dance, our Rhythm classes are where smiles meet swing and laughter meets Lindy.

These aren’t stiff ballroom lessons – they’re pure, feel-good fun set to the classics.
You’ll learn smooth partner connection, easy-to-follow steps and a few moves you didn’t know you had in you.

Before long, you’ll be gliding across the floor like you were born in the wrong decade.

No partner? No problem. Half our dancers come solo, some bring a friend and a few just follow the sound of the music from the street. Everyone’s welcome and everyone rotates.

What You'll Experience:

  • Toe-tapping tunes from the 50s, 60s and beyond
  • Simple steps that make you look like you’ve been dancing for years
  • Fun, social classes full of laughter (and the occasional hip wiggle)
  • Connection, confidence and community — no pressure, no judgement

How can I become a good Rhythm dancer?

1️⃣ Listen before you move

Great dancers don’t just count beats — they feel the music. Start by listening to classic Rock ’n’ Roll or Swing tracks and notice the rhythm, the groove, the energy.

Tap your foot, nod your head, let your body find the beat. The more you listen, the more naturally your movement will flow.

2️⃣ Dance often, not perfectly

You don’t need hours of practice — just consistency. Come to class each week, dance at socials, or even boogie in your kitchen.

Every time you move, you build confidence, rhythm and muscle memory. Progress happens when you stop worrying about “getting it right” and just enjoy the music.

3️⃣ Connect with your partner (and have a laugh)

Rhythm dancing is social at its core. It’s not about showing off; it’s about sharing the moment. Smile, make eye contact, enjoy the spins (and the mistakes).

The best dancers aren’t the flashiest – they’re the ones who make their partner feel great.

FAQs

Do I need a partner?

No partner needed! Many of our students come solo and we rotate partners so everyone learns together. Couples are welcome to stay paired if they prefer.

Absolutely. Most of our students start with zero experience and sometimes zero rhythm. We start with the basics, move at a comfortable pace and focus on helping you feel confident, not perfect.

Keep it simple and comfortable — think casual clothes you can move in. Jeans, leggings, or any relaxed outfit that lets you twist, turn and laugh freely. For shoes, wear something secure that slides easily on the floor (sneakers, dance shoes, or smooth-soled flats). Avoid thongs or anything with a sticky grip – they make it harder to spin.

Basically, if you can boogie in it, it’s perfect.

Not at all. We have dancers from their 20s to their 70s. It’s never too late or too early to start enjoying movement, music and connection.

Not at all. Rhythm dancing is about having fun, not touching your toes. You don’t need to be fit, flexible, or fancy – just willing to move to the music. The steps are easy, the pace is relaxed, and you can take breaks whenever you like. Most people find they get fitter by accident because they’re too busy smiling to notice.

Our group classes run for about an hour, just long enough to learn something new and still have energy for a laugh at the end.

No problem. You can catch the same level the next week or join another class time. We’re flexible because life happens.

We’re a small boutique studio in Mullumbimby that focuses on connection, fun and genuine community, not competition. You’ll never feel like just another student here.
